Mustang: Nepal's prominent
Touristy pledge
Mustang is a beautiful spot fulfilled by temples &
numerous monasteries. Surrounded by northern snowy mountainous, Mustang is
the quite fascinating destination for the trekkers & the mountaineers.
Although it was open for the tourists in 1990, the tourist arrival here
started only in 1992. Speedily blowing gushy air, barren desert, mound, and
settlement inside the rocky cave, celestial houses made of local design &
Buddhist stupas and houses fluttering with its religious standards are the
special peculiarities of Mustang. The visitors are seemed welcoming smilingly
by mount Nilgiri & Dhaulagiri. A Traveler's trip hit by its speedily
blown cold breeze is always memorable for him. Most of the areas in Mustang
have been covered by arid barren dry land. Though the lowest parts like:
Gasa, Kolchepani, Marpha etc places are found greenery and cultivatable
Lomanthang is the fort inhabited by 181 houses. Lomanthang
has been encircled by 856- meter long wall. This fort was encircled in this
way to defend from the frequent attack of the then Jumla state by that time
TheTijifestivalis a three-day ritual known as "The Chasing of the
Demons", centered around the Tiji myth. Tiji tells the story of a deity
named Dorje Jono who must battle against his demon father to save the Kingdom
of Mustang from destruction. The demon father wreaks havoc on Mustang by
creating a water shortage which, in this extremely arid land, is the most
precious life-sustaining resource. Dorje Jono eventually defeats the demon
and banishes him from the land.
Tijiis a celebration and reaffirmation
of this myth. Throughout the festival the events and story of the myth are
re-enacted. The festival is timed to coincide with the end of the dry season
(late spring) and ushers in the wetter monsoon season. Tiji comes from the
words "ten che" meaning "the hope of Buddha Dharma prevailing
in all worlds" and is a spring renewal festival that also celebrates the
triumph of good over evil.
