Annapurna Base Camp Trek is a spectacular journey on foot to the South Face of Annapurna I – a classic walk through the diverse Nepalese landscape and its culture. The 11-day Annapurna Base Camp Trek itinerary is designed for trekkers who would like to trek to the base camp of Annapurna but are restricted time-wise. On your 11-day journey we will reach the base camp of the world’s 10th highest mountain, Annapurna (8,091m); visit some UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu, relaxing in the beauty of Pokhara, enjoy breathtaking Himalayan vistas during the trek.

Accommodations

We will be staying in hotel / resort in Kathmandu/ Pokhara and teahouses during the trek. All accommodations are on twin-shared basis. Single supplement will be served on request with additional cost. We will have rooms with attached washrooms in most parts of the trek but this is not possible in a few remote locations. Also understand that single rooms are not easily available in higher elevations like they are in Kathmandu and the lower elevation regions.

Meals

All meals will be provided during trekking while only breakfast will be available in Kathmandu and Pokhara. There will also be welcome or farewell dinners for guests. The most common cuisines in most menus will be Nepalese, Tibetan, Indian and the more common continental.

Our trek will be led by the best and professional leaders. All of Sisne Rover Trekking leaders are carefully selected on the basis of their experiences, leadership skills and personal aptitude. With an objective of sustaining local communities, Sisne  only employs local staff who have adequate knowledge about culture, ecosystem, flora, fauna, geography, and history of their local region/s.

Porter Care

Sisne Rover is firmly committed to porter rights. We make sure that all our porters are well treated and well paid. Furthermore, Sisne Rover also provides the required level of shelter, clothing and footwear that these harsh environments demand. Porters who become sick are treated with the same care and attention as other team members. We have previously used helicopters at company’s expense to rescue porters from dangerous situations. And for the porter’s sake, all trekkers keep the weight of their luggage under 15kgs/33 pounds. We also support the work of International Porter Protection Group (IPPG), making our resources available to them to help improve the working conditions of the porters.

Environmental Concerns

The Annapurna Region is strikingly beautiful, but equally fragile. Future generations have just as much of a right to appreciate it as we do and so the tourism industry has an obligation to protect and preserve it. Sisne Rover employs a ‘zero impact’ policy on the natural environment and the traditional communities that live there. Sisne Rover, therefore, enforces a number of do’s and don’ts. Sisne Rover’s experienced staff can advise us on how to minimize our impact on the local environment.

Acclimatization

Like all Sisne Rover’s itineraries, the Annapurna Sanctuary Trek is also planned to curb Acute Mountain Sickness which is very common during high altitude trekking. We ascend gradually so that we have optimum time to acclimatize to the high altitude environment. Trekkers with known heart, lung or blood diseases are required to consult their doctors before booking the trek.

Physical Condition & Experience Requirements

Annapurna Sanctuary Trek is a moderate trek suitable for trekkers who can walk at least 6-7 hours a day with a light backpack. No technical skill is required. Anyone who is physically fit with good health can participate in this trek. However, it is always best to start jogging and exercising regularly at least a month before the actual trek. Also, trekkers who have had experiences with high altitude trekking will find this trek relatively easier than others.

Best Time to Travel

Autumn (Sept. to Nov.) and spring (March to May) are the best seasons for this trek. The weather is sunny and warm with outstanding views. If you wish to avoid crowds and enjoy some alone time with nature, then taking this trip during winter (Dec., Jan., Feb.) could also be an option.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300m)

Upon arrival in Kathmandu, a representative from Sisne Rover will pick us up from the airport and take us to our hotel. In the afternoon, we may take a rest or visit some world heritage site in Kathmandu. In the evening, there will be a welcome dinner arranged by Sisne Rover Trekking at the hotel. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 02: Fly to Pokhara (823m), trek to Ghandruk (1940m) 5 - 6 hrs

We take an early morning flight to Pokhara ( 30 minutes ), the beautiful lake city and catch great views of the Himalayas from the right side of our airplane. After landing in the Pokhara airport, we drive an hour to Naya Pul and start the trek. to Ghandruk, a beautiful village mostly inhabited by the Gurung community. If time allows, we also visit the Gurung museum today.  Overnight in Ghandruk.

Day 03: Ghandruk to Chhomrong (2170m): 5 - 6 hrs

We step up for around an hour up to Kimrungdanda. On the way, we can enjoy great views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Fishtail Mountain (Machhapuchhre) and Ganggapurna. A steep descent takes us to the Kimrong Khola. After another steep ascent from Kimrong Khola to Chere Danda, we descend for a while and then it’s a gentle walk to Chhomrong. Chhomrong is a beautiful village located on the lap of the giant Annapurna massive. Overnight in Chhomrong.

Day 04: Chhomrong to Bamboo (2310m): 5-6 hrs

We descend via 2500 stone steps and cross the bridge above Chhomrong Khola. From here it is an uphill climb to Sinuwa. Next, we pass through a beautiful forest to Kuldihar followed by an easy downhill walk to Bamboo. Overnight in Bamboo.

Day 05: Bamboo to Deurali (3230m): 4- 5 hrs

We pass through a bamboo forest which is damp and cold then ascend steadily with a few steep sections. It is only after reaching Himalaya Hotel that the forest opens up and we are out in the sun again with astounding views of the glacial river below. It is a steep climb up through a much drier forest before reaching Hinku Cave. From here we can see the trail drop closer to the river before ascending again to Deurali, the most scenic stretch of the day. The vegetation is sparser, allowing magical views of the valley, the river below, and the sheer rock-face cliffs above with bands of wispy waterfalls. Overnight in Deurali.

Day 06: Deurali to Annapurna Base Camp (4,130m): 5- 6 hrs

Climb gently through a river bed then over a steep trail over to the mountain side. The hike from Bagar to Machhapuchhre Base Camp is somewhat strenuous. From Machhapuchhre base camp we get excellent views of the majestic snow capped mountains. The vegetation disappears on our way to ABC and the path widens as we enter the Annapurna sanctuary. From here, we get sensational views of the near-vertical south face of Annapurna towering above us. The sanctuary boasts of a dynamic view without anything impeding the 360-degree panorama. From the base camp we again get to savor mesmerizing views of the Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South , Annapurna I, Hiunchuli and other peaks. Overnight at Annapurna Base Camp.

Day 07: Annapurna Base Camp to Bamboo: 7 – 8 hrs

We retrace our steps down hill to Bamboo., so it shouldn’t be very difficult. Besides, we will always have the company of the extraordinary landscape to cheer us up.  Overnight in Bamboo.

Day 08: Bamboo to Jhinu Danda (1760m): 5 - 6 hrs

From Bamboo, it is an uphill trek to Kuldighar followed by a downhill walk to Chhomrong Khola. Then we climb the stone steps to Chhomrong. The trail then descends to Jhinu Danda, where we will be resting for the night. Today we will have an opportunity to enjoy the hot springs which is just a 20 minute downhill walk from Jhinu Danda to soothe our aching body. Overnight in Jhinu Danda.

Day 09: Trek to Naya Pul then drive to Pokhara: 6 hrs

On our way to Naya Pul from Jhinu Danda, we get to enjoy the amazing hill landscape of western Nepal. We will have lunch at Shyaulibazaar. After lunch if we feel tired we can drive all the way to Pokhara or continue walking to Nayapul  and  board on our vehicle to Pokhara. To celebrate the successful completion of our journey, we will have a farewell dinner in the evening Overnight in Pokhara.

Day 10: Fly to Kathmandu

We fly to Kathmandu in the afternoon. After arriving in Kathmandu, we will be escorted to our hotel. We enjoy the day leisurely or catch up on some last minute shopping or explore any landmarks we missed during our first day in Kathmandu. . Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 11: Final Departure

Our journey in Nepal comes to an end today. A representative of Sisne will drop us off at the airport approximately 3 hours before our scheduled flight. On our way to home, we have plenty of time to plan our next adventure in the wonderful country of Nepal.

What to bring

Nepal is a mountainous tropical country, which means there are climate extremes. Night and day temperature differences can vary between -10°C on the high treks and 30°C on the lower ones (14°F to 86°F), so you need to bring a variety of clothes.

This list is a guideline to help you pack for your adventure. Also understand that the items listed below will vary a little according to the season and the trek duration. The weight limit for your luggage is 33 pounds or 15 kg. Remember that your luggage will be carried by your trekking but you are required to carry a day-pack (with your valuables or anything important) on your own. We also suggest that you pack only what is necessary.

Important documents and items

  • Valid passport, 2 extra passport size photos, airline tickets
  • Separate photocopies of passport, visa form (easily obtained at Kathmandu airport), proof of insurance
  • Dollars, pounds or Euros in cash for purchasing Nepalese visa at Kathmandu airport, for paying for restaurants and hotels, for gratuities, snacks, and to purchase your own drinks and gifts
  • Credit cards, Bank/ATM/Cash machine cards for withdrawing funds from cash machines (bring a photocopy of your cards), traveler’s checks, etc.

Head

  • Head scarf, also useful for dusty conditions
  • Warm hat that covers your ears (wool or synthetic)
  • Headlamp with extra batteries and bulbs
  • Sunglasses with UV protection
  • Prescription sunglasses (if required)

Upper Body

  • Polypropylene shirts (1 half sleeve and 2 long sleeves)
  • Light and expedition weight thermal tops
  • Fleece wind-stopper jacket or pullover
  • Waterproof (preferably breathable fabric) shell jacket
  • Down vest and/or jacket
  • Gore-Tex jacket with hood, waterproof and breathable
