Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,350m)

Upon arrival in Kathmandu, we will be greeted by a representative of Sisne Rover who will drop us off at our hotel. We then check-in at the hotel, freshen up and take  rest. Welcome drink will be served. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 02: Kathmandu- Trek Preparation & free time.

On your first day in Kathmandu, we take rest after a long flight from your home country. After breakfast, you can visit around Thamel (where your hotel will be located) and shop few items that you have missed to bring with you.We can add Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing tour on your request. We can have a tour to UNESCO World heritage sites – Durbar Square, Pashupatinath temple, Swayambhunath stupa and Bouddhanath stupa. In the afternoon, we will have a meeting with our fellow participants and check the final preparation for the trek. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 03: KTM - Lukla- Phakding ( 2651m ) : 4-5 hrs

We will take a early flight to Lukla ( 40 minutes ) from where the Everest Trek begins. In Lukla will meet rest of the team and start the trek. We gradually descend to Cheplung village from where we get a glimpse of Mt Khumbila, a sacred mountain which has never been. We walk on a trail that gradually descends to Cheplung village from where we get a glimpse of Mt. Khumbila, a sacred mountain which has never been climbed.The trail again gradually descend until  Phakding. Overnight in Phakding.

Day 04: Phakding- Namche ( 3438m. ) : 5 – 6 hrs

The trail passes through pine forest and continue on the trail that goes north up the Benkar Valley. Then we cross Dudh Koshi River and pass Chumoa and Monjo village before reaching the entrance of Everest National Park. After crossing a suspension bridge, we pass Jorsale village and walk alongside of the Dudh Koshi and Bhote Koshi rivers. We ascend on a steep trail and reach Namche Bazaar which is probably the biggest town in the Everest region. Overnight in Namche Bazaar.

Day 05: Acclimatization Day - Visit Khumjung Village

Acclimatization is important  to adjust to the gradual change in environment. It  help us to prevent from being  Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS).  Today we hike to Khumjung villages, enjoy the Himalayan vista from Syangboche or tour the quaint streets of Namche Bazaar. We can also visit the Tourist Visitor Center where we can see a variety of things related to the first Everest ascenders and Sherpa culture. This visit will also get us acquainted with various plant and animal life of the Everest region. In Khumjung we can even visit a monastery that houses a yeti scalp! We also climb up to the airstrip above Syangboche and enjoy incredible views of Kongde, Thamserku and Khumbila mountains. We walk back to Namche Bazaar to spend the night.

Day 06: Namche Bazaar to Phorse (3810 m.): 5 - 6 hours

We leave Namche Bazaar on a trail with gradual ups and downs. On the way we are likely to spot Himalayan pheasants, musk deer and Himalayan Thars. We then begin descending to Kyanjuma. From Sansa, we follow the Gokyo trails and from Mong we get a glimpse of Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Tawoche and Khumbila mountains. Our trail descends to Dudhkoshi Khola after which it is an uphill climb through rhododendron forests before reaching Phorse. From here we get good views of Tawache and Cholaste mountains. Overnight in Phorse.

Day 07: Trek to Machhermo (4,470m): 4-5 hrs

After crossing a bridge over the Dudh Koshi River, we are likely to come face to face with local wildlife like pheasants, mountain goats, and musk deer. Our trail passes through forests, waterfalls and bridges before reaching Dole. We climb on a steady trail through a scenic ridge with views of Cho Oyu, Kantega, and Thamserku mountains. We ascend from Luza village and walk above the Dudh Koshi River. We continue walking through small villages and sandy trails before reaching Machhermo. We can visit the Himalayan Rescue Hospital for a lecture regarding altitude sickness, its precaution, and primary treatment. Overnight in Machhermo.

Day 08: Machharmo to Gokyo (4,800 m): 5-6 hrs

We ascend on a hill and enjoy views of the Dudh Koshi valley and Kangtega, Thamserku and Cho-Oyu mountains. Beyond the ridge the valley widens as the trail passes through a Chorten and reaches Phangga. We descend to the river bank before climbing up to the terminal moraine of the Ngozamba Glacier on a steep trail. We pass through Longpongo, Raboche Tsho and Dudh Pokhari before reaching Gokyo. On the trail next to the first lake, we see what is believed to be the footprints of a Lama (Buddhist priest). We explore Dudh Pokhari before calling it a night. Overnight in Gokyo.

Day 09:Gokyo Valley: Climb Gokyo Ri (5357 m.) and hike to fifth lakes: 5 - 6 hours

We spend another day in Gokyo to acclimatize to the high altitude. If the weather is good, we climb Gokyo Ri today. From the top of Gokyo Ri we admire the Himalayan vista and the tranquil Gokyo lakes. We also hike to the fourth and the fifth Gokyo lakes. The 4th lake is only about 3km north of Gokyo. It is marked by high cliffs and Himalayan peaks rising above it. We continue to walking a little further and reach the 5th lake. A climb up a nearby hill will guarantee us remarkable views of Cho-Oyu, Gyachung Kang, Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Makulu. We can see a lot more from here – the spot is called Scoundrel’s Viewpoint. From the northern part of the 5th lake we see the Cho Oyu base camp and Ngazumpa Glacier which is the biggest glacier the world. We walk back to Gokyo to spend the night.

Day 10: Trek to Dole 3 - 4 hrs

We descend on a trail along the Dudh Koshi River and pass the first Gokyo lakes. On the way we also enjoy views of the Cholatse and Taboche peaks. Our trail descends before climbing a hill. After reaching the chorten at the edge, we see great views of Thamserku, Cho Oyu, and Kangtega mountains. We walk past Machhermo, Luza and Lhafarma villages before reaching Dole. Overnight in Dole.

Day 11: . Dole to Namche Bazaar: 4 - 5 hours

We descend on a steep trail to Phortse Thanga admiring rhododendrons, wildflowers and waterfalls. We also come across mountain goats, musk deer, pheasants, etc. From Mong, we can admire a good view of Khumbila peak. On our way to Namche the view of Taboche, Ama Dablam, Thamserku and Kangtega mountains are ours to admire. After walking for a while, we reach an intersection where the trail from Sanasa meets our trail. We walk on a trail that clings to a forested slope beyond Kyangjuma, winding through several bends. After reaching Namche army camp hill, we look back to see Lhotse, the tip of Everest and Tengboche for one last time. About a kilometer from here is Namche Bazaar. Overnight in Namche Bazaar.

Day 12: Namche – Lukla ( 2800m. ): 6-7 hrs

We descend on a rocky trail and cross several suspension bridges before walking on a leveled trail. The air is warmer as we walk on the same trail to reach Lukla. Our trek in the mountain ends after we reach Lukla. We spend our time reminiscing about our time spent in the mountain. Overnight in Lukla.

Day 13: Fly to Kathmandu

We fly back to Kathmandu on the earliest possible flight. We can take a rest or do some souvenir shopping. If we want to explore any other areas of Kathmandu, we may do that today. Our guides can help you with both souvenirs shopping or sightseeing. There will be a farewell dinner in the evening to celebrate the successful completion of our journey. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 14: Final Departure

The whole trip of our Nepal’s adventure ends today. A representative of Sisne Rover Trekking will drop us off at the Tribhuwan International Airport  three hours before  the scheduled flight.

The 14-day trip begins in Kathmandu where we visit several heritage sites. The Gokyo Lakes and Gokyo Ri Trek is an alternative to classical treks in the Everest region. Important Note: 

Your safety is of paramount concern while traveling with Sisne Rover. Please note that your leader has the authority to amend or cancel any part of the itinerary if it is necessary due to safety concerns. Every effort will be made to keep to the above itinerary; however, since this adventure entails traveling in remote mountainous regions, we cannot guarantee that we will not deviate from it. Weather conditions, health condition of a group member, unexpected natural disasters, etc., can all contribute to changes in the itinerary. The leader will try to ensure that the trip runs according to plan, but please be prepared to be flexible if required.

Accommodations 

We will be staying in hotel in Kathmandu/ Pokhara and teahouses during the trek. All accommodations are on twin-shared basis. Single supplement is served on request with additional cost. We will have rooms with attached washrooms in most parts of the trek but this is not possible in a few remote locations. Also understand that single rooms are not easily available in higher elevations like they are in Kathmandu and the lower elevation regions.

Meals 

During the trek, we provide all meals whereas only breakfast will be available in Kathmandu and Pokhara. There will also be a complimentary farewell dinner for guests. The most common cuisines in most menus are Nepalese, Tibetan, Indian and common continental.

Porter Care 

Sisne Rover is firmly committed to porter rights. We make sure that all our porters are well treated and well paid. Furthermore, we also provide the required level of shelter, clothing and footwear that these harsh environments demand. Porters get equal treatment and attention like every other team members in case they get sick. We have contract with helicopter emergency evacuation company to rescue porters from dangerous situations. And for the porter’s sake, all trekkers keep the weight of their luggage under 15kgs/33 pounds. We also support the work of International Porter Protection Group (IPPG), making our resources available to them to help improve the working conditions of the porters.

Environmental Concerns 

Annapurna Region is strikingly beautiful, but also equally fragile. Future generations have just as much of a right to appreciate it as we do and so the tourism industry has an obligation to protect and preserve it. We employ a ‘zero impact’ policy on the natural environment and the traditional communities that live there. Sisne Rover, therefore, enforces a number of do’s and don’ts. Our experienced staff can advise us on how to minimize our impact on the local environment.

Acclimatization 

Like all other itineraries, this trek can also curb Acute Mountain Sickness which is very common during high altitude trekking. We ascend gradually so that we have optimum time to acclimatize to the high-altitude environment. Consult your doctors if you have any known heart, lung or blood diseases before booking the trek.

Physical Condition & Experience Requirements 

Gokyo Trek is a difficult trek suitable for trekkers without technical skills who can walk at least 6-7 hours a day with a light backpack. Sometimes, we have to walk 7-8 hrs. Anyone who is physically fit with good health can participate in this trek. However, it is always best to start jogging and exercising regularly at least a month before the actual trek. Also, trekkers with high altitude trekking experience can find this trek relatively easier than others.

Best Time to Travel

Autumn (October. to Nov.) and spring (March to May) are the best seasons for this trek. The weather is sunny and warm with outstanding views

Brief Cultural Considerations

The challenge for you as a visitor to Nepal is to respect the rights and beliefs of the local people and to minimize your impact, both culturally and environmentally. We can all play a part in this by simply being aware of our actions and how they will affect the environment around us. Consider before you buy any sacred relics or endangered animals and take your rubbish with you.

 Please consider the following when trekking:

Dress appropriately: more is better. Revealing clothing in the mountain villages is not suitable, especially for women. T-shirts and trousers/long skirt are the recommended dress, but long shorts are also acceptable. Demonstrating an effort to be sensitive to their culture will enhance your experience with the Nepalese people.

Don’t encourage begging: don’t hand pens, money or sweets directly to the children. This does not only encourage begging, but also causes much conflict amongst the children. You’d rather hand your gifts or pens to a school that will distribute them amongst the children.

Smile: easy to give, wonderful to receive. A smile surpasses all cultural boundaries.

Tip: remove your shoes before entering a Nepali home.

Water

Water purification tablets or a good water filter will save you a lot of money and avoids even more unnecessary plastic in our environment. Iodine pills are very convenient for trekking .One pill will purify 1 liter of water in 20-30 minutes. They are available in Nepal. Gatorade can be a healthy and delicious item to add to your water. Vitamin C (absorbic acid) or Tang powder in different flavors will remove the unpleasant taste of iodine.

Altitude Sickness

Altitude sickness, also known as AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness), is caused by a lack of oxygen at high altitudes (normally above 3,500m, but some may be affected at 3,000m). It occurs as a result of our bodies’ inability to adapt to a sudden increase in altitude. If given time, our bodies will adjust and a gradual ascent will decrease the possibility of altitude sickness.

How to prevent AMS
Go slowly, drink a lot of water and pay attention to the sensations of your body. If symptoms occur, you have climbed too far for the day. Resting at the same altitude will give you time to acclimatize and usually relieve mild symptoms.  Mild symptoms include: headache, nausea, loss of appetite, mild shortness of breath with minimal exertion, difficulty sleeping, dizziness or light headedness, mild weakness, fatigue, a general unwell feeling. More serious symptoms include: inability to recover from shortness of breath with rest, severe persistent headache, low urine output, vomiting, confusion, delirium, loss of coordination.  These require immediate descent as acclimatization will not take place at the same altitude. The best way to avoid AMS is to walk slowly, carry a light pack and just take it easy. Allow your body the time it needs to acclimatize.

What to bring

Nepal is a mountainous tropical country, which means there are climate extremes. Night and day temperature differences can vary between -10°C on the high treks and 30°C on the lower ones (14°F to 86°F), so you need to bring a variety of clothes.

This list is a guideline to help you pack for your adventure. Also understand that the items listed below will vary a little according to the season and the trek duration. The weight limit for your luggage is 33 pounds or 15 kg. Remember that your luggage will be carried by your trekking but you are required to carry a day-pack (with your valuables or anything important) on your own. We also suggest that you pack only what is necessary.
